In improv you learn about listening, 'yes and', spontaneity and more, but there is a whole world of other skills from professional acting that can vastly improve your performance.

You may not be able to do an entire drama school program, so instead we’ve asked the talented Gabriel Soler to give us a crash course in the tools from drama school, applied to improv.

In this course, you will learn how to warm up and use your physicality, the stage and the objects on scene, as well as work on your overall stage presence, each one of them a powerful tool to get into the emotion, our major acting goal.

The aim will be to enable improvisers to have a truthful connection on stage and to be open and vulnerable, whilst keeping the dexterity and skill needed to put on a professional looking show.

This will be a very physical course, so make sure you bring comfortable clothes or even a change of clothes.

What you’ll learn

  • The difference between getting into the emotion from the body or from the intellect

  • Meisner Technique

  • Mask Work

  • Drama School techniques to heighten our artistic interpretation

Who this is for

This is one of our Bubbles. These courses are intended for improvisers who already have an understanding of the basics, perhaps (but not necessarily) though our own Starting Steps courses. If you’re wondering which course is right for you, then feel free to email us.

This particular course’s focus is a must for every improviser, as it relates to one of the most crucial areas for improvisers’ growth and one that makes a huge difference in the audience’s enjoyment and investment in the characters they see onstage.
